§ 14-1. Bird and wildlife sanctuary.

  • (a)

    The entire area within the corporate limits of the city is designated as a bird and wildlife sanctuary.

    (b)

    It shall be unlawful to trap, hunt, molest or kill any wild bird or to rob any wild bird's nest on property owned or leased by the city; however, if nuisance birds such as starlings are found to be congregating in such numbers in a particular locality so as to constitute a nuisance or a menace to the health or property in the opinion of the director of the animal control shelter, the city manager or the chief of police, those birds may be destroyed as humanely as possible, under appropriate supervision, in such numbers and in such manner as is deemed advisable by the city manager or chief of police of the city.

    (c)

    It shall be unlawful to trap, hunt, molest or kill any other wild game on property owned or leased by the city except by order, in their official capacity, of the city's police officers, animal control officers of Cherokee County, or the deputies of the Cherokee County sheriff's office.
