§ 2-187. Compensation and expenses.

  • (a)

    The mayor may receive as compensation for his services an amount of not more than $850.00 per month. Each city councilmember may receive as compensation for his services an amount of not more than $500.00 per month. The mayor and councilmembers shall be entitled to receive their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties of office.

    (b)

    The mayor and councilmembers may be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out their duties. Elected officials will adhere to the same policy guidelines as outlined in the administrative policy and procedures of HRM-5 "Travel While on City Business," as now or hereafter amended with the exception of approval procedures for reimbursements. Such expenses shall include, without limitation, the following:

    (1)

    Mileage reimbursement for the use of a personal automobile while conducting city business.

    (2)

    Travel and lodging expenses and fees incurred in conjunction with training seminars, conventions or city business or city business conducted outside the city.

    Expenses may be reimbursed only after the submission of receipts for such expenses to the city manager and the approval by majority vote of the city council at a regularly scheduled meeting.

    (c)

    No elected official may request disbursement of city funds for any advertisement, club dues, charities or other projects, functions or entities without first submitting the request in writing to the city manager and the approval by majority vote of the city council at a regularly scheduled meeting.
