§ 98-33. Charges and fees.

Latest version.
  • The schedule of charges, fees, rates and deposits for all utility services, including water and sewer, shall be as fixed from time to time by the city council and kept on file in the offices of the city clerk and the city water and sewer department.

    (1)

Bills for city utility services shall be due and payable on the day following the day bills are mailed.

    (2)

If a bill remains unpaid on the 30th day following the initial billing, a notice of termination of water service will be mailed or distributed to the current billing address. This notice will state the amount past due, the due date and that the water service will be disconnected if the amount due is not paid in full, including all late fees.

    (3)

A late charge will be added to any bill not paid on or before the due date. The amount of any such late charge shall be fixed from time to time by the city council. Payment must be received by the city on or before the due date to avoid late fees.

    (4)

Water service may be reconnected between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays observed by city employees. A charge for reconnection of water service shall be made. The amount of such charges shall be fixed from time to time by the city council.

    (5)

Delinquent bills and reconnection fees must be paid in person at the city offices in cash or by money order, certified check or by credit card.

    (6)

Any other provision of this section notwithstanding, any customer submitting a check in payment for water service which is returned to the city as nonnegotiable or as having insufficient funds, will incur a charge, which charge shall be fixed from time to time by the city council.

    (7)

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the city will not refuse to supply water to any single or multifamily residential property to which water has been furnished through the use of a separate meter because of the indebtedness of a prior owner, prior occupant, or prior lessee to the city for water previously furnished to the premises.
